THE 2nd SMART SUBIC INTERNATIONAL MARATHON

The second roll of the highly successful Smart Subic International Marathon will be in full stride this October 24-25, 2009. Supported by the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), this race aims to outnumber and outperform all marathons in the country with a targeted number of 10,000 runners who will vie for over Php1.60M in prizes.

The 1st Subic International Marathon was held last year inside the vast eco reserve of the former American airbase, with more than 7,000 strong runners from both local and foreign entities. Last year’s champion was Kenyan runner Nelson Kirwa Rotich, with the Philippines’s top long distance runner Eduardo ‘Vertek’ Buenavista clocking second.

This year, the marathon venue will be the newly-built SCTEx, highlighting the scenic route and runner-friendly course starting at Florida Blanca, Pampanga, snaking though the Remy Field in Subic Bay, Olongapo. On top of the regular sponsorship perks, a Promo Tour will be carried out nationwide along with the running clinics prior to the big event.

Competitions in half-marathon, 10K, 5K, 3K humanitarian and fun runs will be held simultaneously on the second day of this event Presented by Smart and co-presented by Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, PNP, SBMA, MNTC, Maynilad, Toby’s, Burlington BioFresh, Sports Armour, Christ Sports, Tsoko Nut Batirol, Timex, Pocari Sweat, Lighthouse Marina, Isuzu, Second Wind, Dusit Thani Hotel and TRX.
